McDonald’s to Close CosMc’s Beverage Chain After Two Years
On May 23, 2025, McDonald’s announced it would be shutting down its beverage-focused chain, CosMc’s, a decision made merely two years after the brand’s launch. The fast-food giant revealed plans to close its standalone CosMc’s locations beginning in June, alongside discontinuing its associated mobile app.
The first CosMc’s opened its doors in December 2023 in Illinois, aiming to become a formidable competitor in the beverage market dominated by establishments like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts. The concept was conceived to offer a diverse menu of customized drinks that traditional McDonald’s restaurants found challenging to replicate.
As part of the transition, McDonald’s indicated that select beverages from the CosMc’s lineup would be available through its standard McDonald’s outlets, although specific items were not disclosed. “We’ve learned so much, so quickly from the CosMc’s test,” the company stated. “It allowed us to test new, bold flavors and different technologies and processes – without impacting the existing McDonald’s experience for customers and crew.”
Menu Offerings at CosMc’s
Among the innovative drinks offered by CosMc’s were options like a churro frappe and an iced vanilla matcha latte. In addition to beverages, the chain also featured snack items such as pretzel bites and a selection of sandwiches, including a spicy queso sandwich.
