Announced on Tuesday, the operation culminated a month-long investigation aimed at addressing a criminal epidemic that experts describe as persistent and alarming. Initiated in April, Operation Soteria Shield also resulted in the seizure of terabytes of digital child abuse materials, which highlights the extent of the problem. Dan Curtis, Assistant Chief of the Plano Police Department, noted that many of the rescued children were previously unidentified and had never been reported missing. “During this operation, many of the children recognized or rescued were previously unidentified. They had never been reported missing. They had never had their abuse known to authorities,” Curtis stated.
