Road Rage Incident Leads to Injury in Colorado Springs
A shooting incident late Wednesday evening left one individual injured and led to the arrest of a suspect in Colorado Springs. The event unfolded around 7 p.m. at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway, with preliminary investigations suggesting that the incident was linked to road rage.
Details of the Shooting
The suspect, identified as Michael Brodus, 29, allegedly discharged an AK-47 style rifle during a confrontation that escalated into a shooting. According to court documents, Brodus has been charged with first-degree assault after an altercation occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 4200 block of Austin Bluffs.
In the aftermath, a 17-year-old male was found in the 5000 block of Splitrail Drive, roughly a mile from the scene of the shooting. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his arms, but fortunately, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The teenager was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation into the shooting was bolstered by a witness who shared a video on social media that captured the incident. The footage revealed a man firing several shots while positioned behind the open driver’s door of a blue Subaru, targeting other vehicles. This crucial evidence aided the police in identifying Brodus as a suspect.
Officers were able to trace the vehicle’s license plate back to Brodus, leading them to his apartment where they observed him carrying items from a blue Subaru. At the time of his apprehension, he was wearing the same clothing as seen in the video.
Despite the swift arrest, authorities have yet to locate the firearm used in the incident. Brodus is currently held at the El Paso County Jail under a $100,000 bond, with a court appearance scheduled for June 16.
